My Woven Pillow Cover

Woven Pillow Cover.jpg

I used 1/2 of a Moda Jelly Roll to complete this 18″ x 18″ pillow cover.  I love how it turned out.

I came across a video by Debbie Shore on YouTube and decided to give her tutorial a try.

Here are a few more shots of my pillow.

Now back to working on something that is already started and not completed.  My nemesis.

UFO’s (this is embarrassing to admit)

unfinished-projects-565x565.jpg

My plan is to have a visual listing of things that I hope to someday finish.   By doing this I am hoping that it will make me accountable and I will pick them up and just finish them.  I am pretty sure that this is not a complete listing.  😦

IF SOMEDAY YOU SEE NO PICTURES HERE, I HAVE ACCOMPLISHED MY TASK.

Don’t hold your breath.  ha ha ha

Long Time Gone

This is another Jen Kingwell design called Long Time Gone.  It will finish being 66″ x 67″ This is just a sneak peek into the progress that I have made so far.  I still have a LOT to do.  Her designs are labor intensive, but I love to do them.  I am overrun with leftover fabric from one project or another, so this is a wonderful way to use some of them.  There is no rhyme nor reason to these patterns and  I think that is what attracts me to them so much.

Gypsy Wife Quilt

This is my Gypsy Wife Quilt designed by Jen Kingwell.  It measures 59″ x 68″.

I used scraps from my HUGE pile to make this and it was a labor of love.  It took me a while to put it all together and to do the quilting on it, but I ended up loving it so much that I started two more quilts by Jen.  The second one is called “Long Time Gone and is going to be a colorful scrappy quilt also.  The third one will be made using more subdued scraps and that one is called “Delilah”  More information to come on those as they progress further.

The quilting was intended to be simply ditch work and straight line quilting, but then I purchased some domestic machine quilting rulers by Westalee and decided to try my hand at them on this busy quilt.  I finally had to stop myself.  Enough is enough.  LOL

This quilt had no real intended purpose.  I just enjoy doing them and it fills my day.  I had decided that I would put it on Etsy and see if I could sell it.  (I have not been very successful selling quilts on Etsy so far.)  I usually post my finished work on Facebook for my friends to see so that is what I did.  Almost immediately one of my friends said that she wanted to buy it.  I was thrilled.  We made arrangements and now she is the proud owner of “Gypsy Wife”

That is it, for now, friends.  Time to get to my sewing machine.  She’s calling me.

Too many unfinished projects to handle

It’s the reason that I don’t make resolutions.  I have this HUGE habit of starting things and sometimes taking years to finish them.

I think I get bored with one thing and move onto another.  I have convinced myself that it keeps me sane.  Ha ha.  Others around me are not so convinced.

I recently purchased a few of the Westalee rulers for free motion quilting on a domestic home machine.  I turned my practice samples into pot holders and will try to sell them in my Etsy shop. View my shop here

Here is a sample of what I have been doing lately.   Pillows and Potholders.  I’m having fun, but I also am thinking that I should move onto something that will aid in decreasing the size of my works in progress.

This month is brought to you by the letter P.  LOL

It’s 2017 and I have hopes to finish up some works in progress this year.

2016 has been a busy and productive year for me.  I have far too many projects in the works.  As time allows I will post pictures of them here in this post.  By doing that I am hoping that it will make me accountable and I will finish them up.

I may surprise myself when I see just how many I have to finish.  (not really as they pretty much stare me in the face in my storage room.)

My best purchase last year was my QuiltPro Plus IV cabinet by Koala.   My Janome 15000 has the home that she deserves and I absolutely love it.

I’ve not been idle

Woah!  It’s  been a long while since I have updated my site.

Being told that I had a brain tumor in November may have had something to do with my absence.

I am happy to report that I had surgery on March 8th, 2016 and I am doing FANTASTIC.  I was back to my quilting 4 days after a craniotomy.

I may decide to keep the (pasted to my head) megga gel look hairstyle.

Lou won’t be cold this winter

I’m in the process of making a flannel rag quilt for Lou’s bed.

I cut 88 ( 9″ x 9″ ) squares from about 10 various flannel fabrics and 88 (9″) square of the same flannel for the back of the blanket.  The batting  squares were cut to 8″ square.  The finished blanket will measure approximately 64″ x 88″, depending on how much it shrinks when I wash and dry it.

I sandwiched all 88 squares, sewed an X across each piece and began to think about the layout of the squares.  My quilt is to be 8 squares wide by 11 squares long.  I didn’t want too many darks or too many lights in the same area.  I wanted a scattered look.

I now have 7 rows sewn and attached to one another.  I’m beginning to think about all of the clipping that I will have to do very soon in order to rag this quilt.  That is the worst part, but the end result is very cool.

If all goes well, he will sleep under this blanket tomorrow night.  A welcomed friend in Massachusetts in December.

Update:  I finished it in time for him to sleep under it last night.  He loved it and that makes me happy.

Swoon Sixteen

I ordered this kit http://www.hancocks-paducah.com/s.nl/sc.1/category./.f?search=Moda+Bonnie+and+Camille+Hello+Darling+Swoon+Sixteen+Quilt+Kit+74+x+74

on sale from http:/http://www.hancocks-paducah.com at the end of August 2015.   At the same time I ordered the 5 yards of fabric needed for the backing of the quilt.

The backing came in in a timely manner, but the quilt kit was backordered.  Oh woe is me.  I wanted to get started on it and now I had to wait.

It obviously was a very popular kit, because it took just short of two months to make it to my home.

On Monday October 19th it was delivered to my doorstep.  Tuesday October 20th it looked like this.22173832948_5dfbf33fc8_z

920 cuts including the binding, but not counting the sashing and borders.  Phew, was my hand tired.  There are 57 pieces in each 16-inch block.

True to form, I got the entire quilt top completed minus the borders by Thursday the 29th of October.  I worked long and hard each day until it was put together.

I have a busy morning ahead of me today but I hope to get the borders on before the end of the day.  When all is said and done this quilt will measure 74″ x 74″.

Here it is.  Now I need to quilt it.  22017271324_73ec41b1c0_z

I have decided to do an all over meander/stipple stitch to quilt this. I have quilted 9 of the 16 blocks and I am happy with my choice.

It is completed and I am happy with how it turned out.
